"Black list" of guests — does the hotel need?

Hotels everywhere began to unite and create "black lists". The so-called list of unwanted guests exists in large international networks, but Russian small accommodation facilities do not lag behind the world experience.

Why create it and who gets there?

Who falls into the "black list" of the hotel

The main purpose of this list is to protect hotels from fraudsters and debtors. Therefore, most often it is these people who fall into it.
Hotel chains and partner hotels share a list of unwanted guests with each other. At the discretion of the hotel, it can also be entered:

  • Violent, scandalous guests;
  • The persons abusing alcohol;
  • Smokers who smoke in the wrong places;
  • Guests with Pets who violated the hotel's requirements;
  • Thieves, crooks, unscrupulous customers.

More minor issues, such as non-payment of additional services, the hotel solves immediately. And if the season is high, and it was not possible to detect the debt immediately, then the hotel may remind the guest of the debt the next time they arrive.

The "black list" is designed to protect hotels from unscrupulous scammers. Even small hotels and hostels need to address this issue.

At an unofficial level, hotels refuse to meet such a guest under the pretext of lack of seats. But large networks usually immediately report to the police or resolve all issues with the guest personally.
There are several other ways to resolve the issue with debtors.

1. If this is a regular customer, then you can minus bonuses from the loyalty program. He will be able to restore them only after covering all debts.

2. To provide services on a prepaid basis only. Moreover, the tariff is non — refundable, and the prepayment is full.

Where to keep a "black list"

Work in the hotel has long been automated at all stages. So, you can create such a list of unpleasant guests directly in PMS systems and mark their reservations. Any administrator, even a novice, will see that the guest is not expected at the hotel, which means that it is better not to make a reservation.
It is difficult to work with the "black list" legally, since in the case of a court, the guest may be recognized not as a fraudster, but as a debtor. The law does not provide for refusal to provide hotel services on such grounds as being included in the "black list".

Often, in the case of a court, the hotel receives a decision in response, where it is said that the fact that the consumer has previously violated the rules of hotel accommodation does not indicate that they repeat such violations when they subsequently apply to the hotel.

To protect yourself, the hotel should prescribe the rules of accommodation and take the guest's signature at the entrance and exit. You also need to control the number of additional services provided and conduct them only through the sales register. This applies to the mini-bar, buying snacks, paying for transfers, etc.
The hotel, at its sole discretion, may refuse to stay if there are no real opportunities to provide services.

Tourists are required to carefully read the rules of accommodation before settling in. Remember that if you get into the "black list" of one hotel, then soon it may pass information to its colleagues, then the road to many hotels may be closed.
